A weather observer waits on a tidal flat for a storm that will never arrive. The data she records slowly loses its meaning. She keeps waiting.

STORY

Waiting Is a Form of Observation.

After the tide withdraws, the flat exposes a thin film of water. Every day she records wind direction, water temperature and the shape of the clouds, filling a notebook that is already in its third volume.

The storm did not come. The low-pressure centre in the forecast drifted forty kilometres out to sea and passed the coast by. Her colleagues left one by one. She stayed, to keep observing a weather event that was never going to happen.

With very little dialogue and a great many fixed shots, the film follows a person learning to live with a system that has stopped working.

PRODUCTION NOTES

The film combines generated imagery with live-action material. The coastal sequences were shot on an actual tidal flat; the figure and parts of the sky were added with AI imagery, then graded to a single set of colours and grain, so that the two origins are deliberately indistinguishable.

I am not filming what technology can do. I am filming a person's face while they wait for something that will never happen.
